who we are
our core values
These are the values that make us who we are. The center of what we believe and the reason for why we are attempting to live the way we are. Take a look.
Christ Centered – We believe that God, who is perfectly displayed in the person of Jesus of Nazareth, created the world for loving relationship, and in response to humanity’s rejection of him, set in place a great rescue plan focused on the life death and resurrection of Jesus, to bring all things back to what they were intended to be. We feel that through faith in Jesus as our leader we are challenged to live centered around worshiping him as we journey this life together, following his lead as a community that chooses to be recipients and agents of his new creation.
Prayer Active – As followers of Jesus, we believe our relationship with him is the source of all grace, love, strength and wisdom. We as a community recognize that relating with him through prayer in the form of spiritual disciplines connects us with Jesus and is the beginning of his action through us in this world. We are dedicated to connecting with him.
Grounded in the Biblical Story – We believe the Bible is the story of God redeeming the world through Christ. We believe that Bible is not just something to be studied but to be inhabited, for it is our story as well. We want to live the narrative of scripture desiring for it to form us through communal study and daily practice. The Bible is crucial to making disciples of Christ and shaping his church.
Missional – Because we are centered in Christ we are defined by the Missio Dei, or the Mission of God. We see ourselves as a Missional Church, meaning that we are sent ones, being called to take the Gospel to our culture in word and action. We believe that the church is not a building but a people, called to incarnate God’s message of love with our lives. We are missionaries to our community and recognize that church should be lived out in these communities. We take seriously the “go” in the Great Commission, and believe that it is through real relationships with each other and our neighbors that God will work to bring people to accept and participate in God’s redeeming plan. All of our resources, plans, and efforts are seen through the lens of mission.
Vintage Faith – We believe that we are a part of the church universal, which transcends traditions, geographical boundaries, and time. We stand on the shoulders of thousands of years of those who have struggled to follow in the way of Jesus. We take our place in this vintage faith through continuing the practice of common prayers, communal action, spiritual disciplines, and ancient-future worship.
Built on House Church – We believe that the foundation of the Christian faith is love and that love is expressed through relationship. This is perfectly modeled in the perfect loving relationship within the Godhead between Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Relationship is seen in the incarnation of God in his Son Jesus, and is laid out for us as the format for which we the church are to live out the faith.
With this in mind, we also recognize that the American culture we live in is one where people are becoming more and more segmented from each other. This is why we focus our ministry model on the format of House Church. House church is just like it sounds, the church meeting in the homes of its participants. It is an intentional format to build relationship and community within the DNA of the church. It is modeled after the early church seen in the New Testament.
We believe that the Apostles' Creed, which has been for thousands of years the basic creed of the Christian faith, best outlines our basic beliefs.
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell. The third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;from there he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy unified church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
Living our Beliefs
In essential beliefs — we have unity. (Ephesians 4:3–6)
In non-essential beliefs — we have liberty. (Romans 14:1, 4, 12, 22)
In all our beliefs — we show charity. (1 Corinthians 13:2)
