The late Tom Petty once sang a lyric…”the waiting is the hardest part.” Wether he meant to or not he described our culture well…we don’t like to wait. Wether it is waiting in line, waiting for a delivery, or waiting for marriage, it seems everything in our culture is trying to decrease the wait. Yet when we read the Bible we see that part of following God is to wait on him…and that waiting is a part of the life of faith. We have convinced ourselves that waiting is something to eliminate, while God wants us to know he is the one that works in the process and the waiting. The God of promises is also the God of the waiting. So many of us have been waiting for healing, for a loved one to come to faith, or for a relationship to be mended. This Advent season we will come back to the story of a people waiting for the promised Messiah to be reminded the God that came through is also the God that works In The Waiting.
